Not sure if this OPML blog is written by CELL (Liu Peng). I met Cell on 2nd Chinese Blogger Conference. We talked a little bit about his startup OPML.cn. (Read my blog of the conference.)

This service has been online for one year. Basically it provides online OPML file viewing and editing. OPML is used widely for sharing RSS reading list. Actually it can be used for sharing any resources, like this OPML presentation.

I learned the importance of OPML when I was playing with Dave Winer’s OPML Editor. But there’s still no killer application for OPML yet. That’s the reason why service like OPML.cn still not widely adopted.

I was wondering why my firefox automatic update feature hasn’t told me the availablility of the new version of the browser. This article answered my question. It turned out that there’s still a version 1.5.0.8. This new version is mainly to give you the option to decline major upgrade.

Firefox users expecting their browser to automatically install version 2.0 may have to wait a little longer. Firefox’s automatic update feature does not presently give users the option of declining an update. […] Firefox will first ship a 1.5.0.8 upgrade to the browser that will give them the ability to decline the major upgrade. After that it will push out the 2.0 version via automatic update.

Yesterday, I finally upgrade this site to Wordpress 2.0.4. This is not for any other new feature, but Akismet, the anti-spam plugin for Wordpress. Less than 24 hours, it has blocked 20 spams for me. Very good job!

The upgrading is definitely smooth. I upgrade from 1.5 to 2.0.4 by just following the instructions in the readme file. All my settings are reserved without problem including the theme.

Only one place you need to chance. I have deleted some code in the dashboard which will try to load rss from Technorati, since it is not working in China. Otherwise you dashboard won’t load properly.

I took some break yesterday and attended Mobile Monday Shanghai. I have put the report on CWR.

This is the longest Chinese post I have written this year. Thanks Zheng. I think we need some Chinese words about barcamp Shanghai. This event is not supposed to be a gathering of western guys in Shanghai.

In the last two weeks, I was taking part in the preparation of Barcamp Shanghai. If you don’t know what is Barcamp, it’s a loosely organized grassroot unconference. Most of the topics on Barcamp are about technology, but you can talk about other things too. For formal introduction of Barcamp you can visit the Wikipedia page.

The first Barcamp in China will be held in Tudou’s office on Sept. 24. They have a cool office in a two floor Warehouse, with more than two thousand square meters. If you want to have a look at their famous wall drawings, I have taken some picturs, last time I visit their office.

As one kind of unplanned conference, all the sessions are scheduled in the morning on the conference day. If you want to lead a session, you must show up at the schedule time. Your session even have to get enough vote to happen, if too many people want to talk.

With the new homepage went live the door has opened. Register to the event early, because we can only accept 80 people. Of course the attendance is free, thanks to our sponsors.
